Introduction
Franneline, a 20-year-old Command Center Officer at SafeCom, is nearing her one-year anniversary with the company. She studied hospitality and tourism at EPI.
Journey to SafeCom
Franneline learned about SafeCom through her godmother. “I decided to apply and got the job! At first, it was a lot to take in, but I kept at it and now feel stable and comfortable in my role,” she shares.
Daily Routine
Describing a typical day, Franneline says, “I start by clocking in, meeting with my colleague to change shifts, opening the monitoring software, and checking my email. This helps me stay up to date. I fill in my shift report and then jump into my duties. Being a Command Center Officer requires you to always be on and alert.”
“As a Command Center officer, we monitor the alarm systems and fire detection systems of our clients. If an alarm or fire detection system triggers, we contact our patrol officers to investigate the situation. We also inform the person in charge of the location. If there's a sign of a break-in or fire, we contact the proper authorities,” she explains.
Work-Life Balance and Rewards
“My work-life balance is pretty good. I started part-time but am now full-time. As long as you keep your hours in mind, it’s easy to balance work and personal life,” she says. Working all shifts, including night shifts, doesn’t bother her. “It’s all about planning your day to accommodate the shift. It’s very rewarding when you help a client adequately, and they praise you for it. It feels great to assist with the security and safety of property and people.”
Projects and Challenges
Franneline deals with various clients, from small businesses to large banks. “Monitoring each client comes with different challenges and ways to approach them. For example, monitoring banks requires heightened alertness and specific protocols,” she explains.
Advice for Aspiring Professionals
“Don’t be scared! It’s overwhelming at first, but remember it’s something new and takes time to get used to. Stay motivated, consistent, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Eventually, you’ll get used to it,” advises Franneline. She also suggests learning about other positions, like patrol officers and security officers, since they work closely with Command Center Officers. “It can be a very enjoyable job, and I personally enjoy it a lot.”
