About the vacancy

The University of Aruba is a young, dynamic and growing university that was founded in 1988 and now consists of four faculties, namely the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Accounting, Finance & Marketing, the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Science. Our primary activity is to provide high quality education.

Alongside our bachelor and master programs, as of 2016 we offer among others the Academic Foundation Year (AFY) program. The AFY aims to serve as a bridge between high school and university, by equipping the students with the essential competencies and skills to have a better transition into higher education. For the AFY we are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive colleague for the position of:

 

JUNIOR UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN STEM

(1,0 fte)

Main responsibilities: 

  • Developing and teaching undergraduate courses in STEM courses, including but not limited to: Introduction to Engineering, Physics, Math Foundations, Financial Literacy, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and related courses;
  • Advising and coaching students in course-related assignments; 
  • Preparing students for and conducting course-related assessments; 
  • Assisting in program coordination; 
  • Taking on administrative duties, commensurate with career stage;
  • Contributing service to development of the AFY program and program-related projects, program tasks and other industry and community-related projects;
  • Collaborate with guest lecturers in lesson planning and delivery, assessments and feedback to students.


Job requirements: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, science, or related field; master’s degree preferred; 
  • Teaching experience;  
  • Affinity with youth and community development; 
  • Excellent verbal and written proficiency of the English language; Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamento are a plus; 
  • Flexible and cooperative attitude to work in a dynamic environment; 
  • Familiarity with or willingness to receive training in Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle/Blackboard);
  • A well-developed professional skills set: proactive, innovative leadership and communication as well as inter disciplinary and inter-cultural competency.


We offer you a pleasant working environment within a small university with around 800 students that is in full development and on the verge of interesting innovations. The small scale of our organization requires a flexibility mindset to deploy a variety of activities with the possibility of conducting scientific research.

This position is for an appointment of 40 hours per week and for a salary in accordance with the remuneration scheme of the University of Aruba. The appointment is for a contract period of one (1) to three (3) years with the possibility of a contract extension based on a good performance evaluation and unchanged organization conditions. Part of our secondary employment conditions include 30 vacation days, 13 ATV days, a vacation allowance, pension plan, additional health insurance and opportunities for personal and professional development.
