Responsibilities

Strategic & Agronomic Management

• Maintenance Planning: To develop and execute a comprehensive annual maintenance diary, including aeration (hollow coring), top-dressing, and overseeding.

• Turf Health Monitoring: To identify and treat turf diseases (such as Fusarium or Dollar Spot) and pests using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to minimize chemical reliance.

• Water Management: To oversee the operation, maintenance, and programming of the irrigation system to ensure optimal moisture levels.

• Ecology & Environment: To manage the "out-of-play" areas (rough, woodlands, and heather) to promote biodiversity and local wildlife habitats.

Operational Leadership

• Staff Supervision: To direct and motivate the greenkeeping team, ensuring work is carried out to the highest standard and within specified timeframes.

• Work Scheduling: To create daily and weekly work rosters that account for tournament schedules, weather forecasts, and staff holidays.

• Health & Safety: To ensure all operations comply with Health and Safety legislation. This includes conducting risk assessments and ensuring COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) standards are met.

Financial & Administrative Duties

• Budgeting: To prepare and manage the annual greens budget, tracking expenditures for machinery, chemicals, fuel, and labor.

• Asset Management: To create a rolling machinery replacement program to ensure the club has modern, efficient equipment.

• Committee Reporting: To attend meetings to provide technical updates and explain course conditions.

Typical Daily Workflow

• Morning Briefing (05:30): Meet with the team to assign "Setup" tasks (mowing greens, changing holes).

• Course Inspection: Walk or ride the course to check for irrigation leaks, or disease outbreaks.

• Project Oversight: Supervise larger tasks such as bunker reconstruction or drainage installation.

• Admin/Vendor Meetings: Order supplies or meet with machinery representatives to discuss new technology.

• Quality Control: Review the finished work of the team before the main wave of golfers reaches the turn.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Highschool Diploma
• At least 8 years in greenkeeping with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Certifications in PA1, PA2, and PA6 Safe Use of Pesticides spraying
• Qualifications in NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
• Deep understanding of soil science, drainage and irrigation hydraulics
• A strong understanding of the rules and etiquette of golf to ensure the "playability" of the course
• Adaptability to pivot plans instantly based on changing weather patterns
• Good communication skills
• A basic understanding of how machinery works to ensure equipment is not abused or neglected
• Fluent in English, Spanish and Dutch
• Good computer skills
• Has a Dutch Passport or a valid work permit
